ADOPTION OF IMPROVED SERICULTURAL TECHNOLOGIES BY THE FARMERS OF TIRUNELVELI DISTRICT OF TAMIL NADU
Abstract
The field study was conducted in five sericulture villages Alangulam, Pavoorchatram, Kadayanallur, Vasuvadevanallur and Sivagiri of Tirunelveli District, Tamil Nadu during 2015-2016, with an objective to understand the adoption of improved sericulture technologies by the farmers. Fifty farmers, ten from each village mentioned above who are interested to follow and adopt new technologies as advocated by the researcher were identified and selected for the present study. High cost of inputs and lack of awareness were found to be the cause for non adoption of technologies. However the farmers who adopted the improved technologies could harvest an average of 36.7 kg of cocoon per 100 dfls. Therefore the adoption of improved technologies must be recommended to the farmers for high field and high income.
