The real power losses minimization in electrical power systems ensures the secure and reliable operation of the power system. Different heuristic optimization methods have been evolved in recent years. In this paper Brainstorm Optimization Algorithm (BSOA) is used to minimize the real power loss of the system by optimal location and setting of FACTS devices. The BSOA algorithm is applied to the real power loss reduction on IEEE-30 Bus system to demonstrate its high efficiency with SVC and UPFC. The computational results specify that the proposed BSOA algorithm is feasible and effective when compared with Newton Raphson approach.
