Ruth Prawer Jhabvala is an outstanding German-born-English novelist, who was awarded the prestigious Booker Prize for her novel Heat and Dust in 1975. Jhabvala adopts her way of narrating Indian social life. Get Ready for Battle is narrative in self-realism dealing with Indian day-to-day life seen in the capital city of Delhi. Because of her marriage to an Indian Parsi architect Ruth Prawer Jhabvala lived in India for twenty-five years where she brought up her three daughters, and wrote twelve novels and a number of short stories. Most of her works of fiction have Delhi as plot background. The Get Ready for Battle, published in 1962, was her fifth novel focusing the glimpses of marriage according to an adult’s encounter with social values, marital reliability and temptation. The paper focuses attention on the theme of the external affair, divorce and individuality.
