Abstract Banking system occupies an important place in a nation's economy. A bank is an indispensable institution in a modem society. It forms the core of the money market of the advanced countries. In India, the money market is characterized by the existence of both the organized and unorganized credit agencies which meet the credit needs of the various sectors of the economy. The unorganized sector, comprising the moneylenders and indigenous bankers, cater to the credit needs of a large number of persons, especially in the countryside. The organized sector of the money market consists of the Reserve Bank, the commercial banks the co-operative banks and the established Regional Rural Banks
