Title

Isolation and Identification of biotechnologically potential bacteria isolated from South Gujarat coastal region

Abstract

Gujarat coastal region covers an area of 24% of the Indian seacoast, which hides in it a huge micro biota with hidden potentials of biotechnological interests with a wide range of synthesis of bioactive compounds to be used as biofuels to biopolymers, cosmetics to nutrient supplements. The recent time in exploring the marine bacteria having ability to produce metabolites as a substituent to the synthetic chemicals. A recent study is targeted in exploring one of such blue technology in the benefit of humankind and the society. A total 74 different marine isolates were obtained from four sites of South Gujarat coastal region, India. These marine isolates were examined for morphological characteristics and were screened for enzymatic activity. 55% of the bacteria were protease producers and 33% of bacteria were amylase producers, and 22% of bacteria were able to produce xylanase enzymes. Out of 74, total 19 different pigmented marine bacteria were obtained. Six intense and different bacteria were further chosen for pigment production and identification was carried out by 16S rRNA sequencing as Salinococcus roseus, Kocuria rosea SRCF20, Micrococcus endophyticus, Kocuria turfanensis strain 2M4 , Planomicorbium sp. sed133-2, Planococcus maritimus SP034 using 16s rRNA sequencing. The accession number of identified bacteria were submitted to GenBank.
