Abstract: The present study has been undertaken to investigate the effectiveness of Dance Movement Therapy and Music Therapy on Hostility and Social Competence Deficits among Adolescents. The main objective of the study was to assess the effectiveness of Dance Movement Therapy and Music Therapy on various levels of hostility and social competence deficits among adolescents in selected schools of Ludhiana, Punjab. The target population was adolescents between the age group of 13-19 years studying from 7th to 12th standards. The sample for present study was selected by using random sampling technique. Total sample of the study was 30, out of which 10 adolescent were in Experimental Group 1, 10 were in Experimental Group 2 and the rest of the 10 were in Control Group. Experimental 1 group were subjected to Dance Movement Therapy, Experimental Group 2 were subjected to Music Therapy and the Control group didn’t have any treatment. The tool was derived and modified from Williamsons life skills tool. There were 3 parts of the tools, Part 1: Socio-demographic Data, Part 2: Modified Hostility Questionnaire consisting of 40 items on a Likert scale, Part 3: Modified Social Competence Questionnaire consisting of 37 items. Try out was done on 10 adolescents in Wylie Memorial School, on the basis of results items in tool were modified. Then the content validity of the tool was done by various experts in the field of Mental Health Nursing. Once the tool was finalized, the study was conducted on 30 adolescents studying in Sacred Heart Convent School, Ludhiana. Reliability of the tools was calculated on the basis of study results and tools were found reliable. The study set forth some suggestions for Dance Movement Therapy and Music Therapy may be effective on Hostility and Social Competence Deficits among adolescents and this study could be conducted on a large sample to generalize the research findings.
