Purpose- The purpose of the present paper is to explore the relationship between spiritual intelligence and work engagement of private college teachers using correlation and further the significant difference was also found using the z test among the gender of the faculty and their scores on spiritual intelligence and work engagement. Design/methodology/approach- The hypothesis was tested using a descriptive research design. The Simple Random sampling technique was adopted in selecting the 161 college teachers working in the private colleges of Chennai district. Findings- Results of the z test revealed that significant differences were found and showed that gender of teachers differed in their perception towards Spiritual Intelligence and work engagement. In addition the results also showed that there existed a moderate positive relationship between spiritual intelligence and the work engagement of the teachers. Practical implications- Based on the study, the results implied that for a teacher to be engaged in the work they do, the role of spirituality, behaviours, their values followed plays a significant role and a vital part. Originality/ value- The original contribution of the paper suggests that the Spiritual Intelligence was measured using the Spiritual Inventory Self Report Inventory and results highlighted that the Spiritual Intelligence was moderate among the teaching workforce in the Indian context, especially Chennai district.
