Modernism, which guaranteed progression, prosperity, comfortable lives and regular income to people, has failed in its promise to render individuals cheerful and satisfied with their individual lives. Alienation, which was a general trait of artists, has become prevalent and engulfed every individual from all strolls of life. Present day society endeavors to stifle uniqueness and, hence, the sensitive individual encounters estrangement and separation. Irritated from inside and with others, the issue filled, untied and confounded man can be found in bounty in present day networks. Man experiences loneliness and isolation even when people surround him. Saul Bellow is America’s most important novelist. His humanity and compassion radiate from every novel. Bellow’s Dangling Man (1944), is a story of an alienated hero struggling to redeem his own life-and he sees a cold, alien world which reflects his own isolation.
