The present study involves isolation, extraction and phytochemical investigation of cyanobacterium Nostoc muscorum belonging to family nostocales for its medicinal value. A qualitative phytochemical analysis of Cyanobacterial extract in various organic solvents like; petroleum ether, acetone, chloroform, ethanol and methanol was performed for the presence of carbohydrate, protein and amino acids, glycosides, alkaloids, saponins, flavonoids, treterpenoids and steroids, tannin and phenolic compounds. Observation revealed the presence of maximum biological compounds in ethanol and acetone extract. Therefore, the result shows that the extract of cyanobacterium Nostoc muscorum serves as a good source of useful pharmaceutical drugs.
