Title

SYNTHESIS OF NOVEL 1,1'-(ETHANE-1,2- DIYL BIS(4,1-PHENYLENE))BIS(4-SUBSTITUTED-PHENYL-3-CHLOROAZETIDIN-2-ONES)FROM 1,2-DIANILINO ETHANE,THEIR CHARACTERIZATION AND EVALUATION OF THEIR ANTI BACTERIAL ACTIVITY

Abstract

A series of bis azetidinones were synthesized by treating the Schiff bases of 1,2- dianilino ethane(bis-imines)with chloro acetyl chloride in 1,4 dioxan using a catalytic quantity of triethyl amine.These Schiff bases were synthesized using a series of aromatic and hetero cyclic aldehydes and 4,4' diamino bibenzyl in alcohol using catalytic quantity of glacial acetic acid.The structures of these synthesized compounds were confirmed by IR and 1H NMR spectral analysis.All the synthesized compounds were tested for their antimicrobial activity using S.aureus and E.coli and for their antifungal activity using Penicillium citrinum and Fusarium oxysporum.These compounds showed moderate to good antimicrobial activity but no antifungal activity.
