Title

Effect of NaCl salinity and zinc on photosynthetic pigment contents in Catharanthus roseus (L.)

Abstract

Salinity is a major abiotic stress adversely affect crop production due to decrease in photosynthetic efficiency. In the present investigation the effect of various concentration of NaCl salinity, Zn and their interactive effect on photosynthetic pigment content in Catharanthus roseus was investigated. The Chl-a, Chl-b, total chlorophylls and carotenoid content decreased with increasing NaCl concentration as compare to Zn. However in interactive effect, Zn mitigates the toxic effects of NaCl, especially with lower concentration of Zn i.e. 5 ppm and 10 ppm as compare to 25 ppm and 50 ppm Zn, which improves photosynthetic efficiency in Catharanthus roseus.
