Food security is one of the global challenges. India is a home to one-third of world’s undernourished children, almost half of the Indian children are stunted and 40% are underweight. At the same time, India is second fastest growing economy in the world. The paradox of high economic growth and slow decline in number of food insecure persons needs to be understood in proper perspective. Inspite of all the concentrated efforts by Government, problem of food security continues to persist in India. In this backdrop, this paper examines the issue of food security in India in terms of main pillars of security viz, availability, accessibility and utilization.
