Title

An application of BA for Harmonic Reduction in DS using Harmonic Filter

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to improve power quality (PQ) in distribution systems (DS) by strategically deploying active filter (AF). In DS, harmonics originating from nonlinear loads (NLs) degrade PQ. By using AFs, total harmonic distortion of voltage (THDv) is improved since NL harmonics fed into DS are mitigated. The effectiveness of this strategy is validated by simulation on the IEEE-69 bus system, which shows a notable improvement in PQ while optimizing AF size. Here, two optimization algorithms bee algorithm (BA) and autonomous particle swarm optimization (APSO1) are applied to find minimum AF current. BA gives better results compared to APSO1 for this problem.
