Title

Spectroscopic investigation of Samarium doped Alkaline Earth Zinc Borate Glasses for Photonic Applications

Abstract

Investigations into lanthanide ions, namely Samarium (Sm3+), within glass matrices demonstrate considerable impacts on optical characteristics, essential for laser and sensor applications. Sm3+-doped alkaline earth borate glasses demonstrate distinctive elastic properties and enhanced glass-forming capabilities attributable to their affinity for oxygen. This research examines five Sm3+ doped borate glasses by X-ray diffraction, emphasising their structural and optical characteristics. The results indicate that these glasses exhibit elevated stimulated emission cross sections and radiative transition rates, rendering them advantageous materials for lasers and photonic devices.
