This paper considers the design and analysis of steel portal frames using software. 3D integer models of steel portal frames are made to analyse the influence of bolted connections on internal force and displacement of frames by using FEM software. The results show the bolted connection is semi-rigid connection, and the flexibility of the connection affects the behaviour of the frames design and analysis. ANSYS simulation software gives designers the ability to assess the influence of these variables in a virtual environment. In the project, we have analysed the shear force, bending moment deflection of the steel frame using the ANSYS and E-TABS software. The software programs provide the user with options to create, modify, analyse and design the structural models, all from within the same user interface. The steel frame will be analysed in commercial software E-TABS according to AISC to produce a structural capable of resisting seismic loads without failure during its intended life. The results of analyses of frames using E-TABS and ANSYS software are compared.
