Title

Investigation of luminescent properties of samarium doped B2O3-SrO-MgF2-Sb2O3-Sm2O3 glasses

Abstract

Abstract: B2O3 + SrO + MgF2 + Sb2O3 + Sm2O3 (BSrMfSbS) glass schemes were fabricated by means of usual melt-quenching process. The characteristic properties of the prepared samples were estimated from the optical absorption, excitation and photoluminescence measurements. The emission bands of Sm3+: samples are originated from the ground state, 4G5/2 to different excited states: 6H5/2, 6H7//2, 6H9/2, and 6H11/2 which corresponds to the wavelengths at 562 nm, 598 nm, 644 nm and 708 nm respectively, at an excitation wavelength of 401 nm. Decay curves were revealed mono-exponential behavior up to 0.1 mol% Sm3+ ions concentration and deviated to non-exponential nature observed from 0.5 to 2.5 mol% Sm3+ ions concentration. The lifetime the excited state (4G5/2→6H7/2 transition) was decreased by the increasing in Sm3+ ions concentration. Chromaticity coordinates of Sm3+-doped BSrMfSbS glasses were evaluated from the measured emission spectra and represented in CIE 1931 chromaticity.
