Title

Learner’s satisfaction of Pan-African e-network Project – A case study with respect to M.Sc.(IT) Students

Abstract

The Pan African E- Network Project was initiated based on the speech given by the Former President of India A. P. J. Abdul Kalam, during the inaugural session of the Pan- African Parliament held in Johannesburg on 16th September 2004. As a follow up of the initiative of Dr. Kalam, the Ministry of External Affairs, Govt. of India proceeded to set up an e-Network to connect all the 53 nations of the African Union by a satellite and their optic network that would provide effective communication for Tele- Education and Tele-Medicine now called Pan-African e-Network. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), Govt. of India has designated the Telecommunication Consultants India (TCIL) - Government of India Enterprise as the Turnkey Project Implementation Agency. For Tele Education, University of Madras was chosen by the Government as one of the five Universities in India to impart Tele Education to Pan African students. The entire cost of the project is 100% sponsored by the MEA through TCIL. An agreement was signed between TCIL and University of Madras on 08.05.2008. The network of the Pan African e-Network project comprises of an MPLS based network connecting the Indian Universities and Super Specialty Hospitals in India to the Pan African e-Network Data Centre’s, patient end hospitals, VVIP nodes, regional University centre’s and Super Specialty Hospitals to Hub Station at Senegal and an International private leased line connection (IPLC) between the Pan African e-Network data centre with the Hub Station Senegal. The network uses suitable RASCOM satellite system. The network has a total of 190 sites in India (5 Indian Universities, 12 Indian Super Specialty Hospitals, data centre at TCIL Bhawan New Delhi) and 170 sites in Africa (53 Learning Centre’s, 53 patient end hospitals, 53 VVIP nodes, 5 regional Super Specialty Hospitals, 5 regional Universities and Hub Station Senegal
