ABSTRACT The concept of gender comes into existence during the early 1970s. It was used as an analytical category to draw a line of demarcation between biological sex differences and the way these are used to uniform behaviors and complexes which are then assigned as masculine and feminine. Gender refers to an attitudes, feelings and behaviors that a given culture associates with a person’s biological sex. The concept of gender is addressed in various specialized disciplines for instance in literary studies, history, anthropology etc each of which retrieves and refigures the concept differently. In Indian society it is patriarchy that provides the family life force to the unfavorable environments that girls and women of all ages face in India. The gender system is basically responsible in the barriers of development of women in Indian culture. According to many psychologists and sociologists point out that the lack in women’s development are related to the gender system in India as per they are not allow get educated.
