Title

PROBLEMS OF THE FACULTY ON ACADEMIC ARRANGEMENT IN HIGHER EDUCATION: A CASE STUDY OF GOVERNMENT DEGREE COLLEGE HANDWARA

Abstract

Like other parts of the India, in state of Jammu and Kashmir Higher Education Department engages every year a massive number of the eligible candidates for meeting the academic requirements in order to reduce the working load of regular teachers and ensure efficiency and quality education at the higher level. The objective of this research paper was to highlight the problems that Contractual teachers or Faculty on academic arrangement are facing as part of the Higher Education system in the State Jammu and Kashmir particularly the case of contractual teaching faculty working at Government Degree College Handwara, with special reference to their social, economic and professional life. The research paper is based on exploratory cum descriptive research design. The data collection represents both primary and secondary sources. The study revealed that faculty on academic arrangement do not have job security which otherwise is temporary in nature and leads to various socio-psychological problems like deprivation and alienation from fellow beings. These problems are intended to give birth to the poor social status of the contractual lecturers in the society on one hand and irresponsible performance and poor quality of teaching by contractual lecturers on the other hand. The study suggested that Contractual lecturers could feel satisfied with their job only if their demand like adequate remuneration, less work load, job security and one shot selection are properly listened and welfare initiatives are taken by the authorities to make their better well being.
