Title

Acoustical Studies of Lithium Zinc Borate Glasses Using Ultrasonic Technique

Abstract

The glass system of B2O3 – Li2O – ZnO (BLZ) for different composition were prepared by conventional melt quenching method. The density and ultrasonic velocities (both longitudinal and transverse) are measured using relative measurement method and pulse echo overlap method at room temperature respectively. From the measured values of velocity and density, elastic constants and other parameters such as molar volume, Poisson’s ratio, acoustic impedance, micro hardness, Debye temperature and thermal expansion coefficient have been evaluated. The variations in these parameters are analysed in terms of structural changes in the glass network with composition. The amorphous nature of the glass samples are studied using XRD.
