Abstract

Indian Natural Rubber finds a ready market internationally for its characteristic tyres, tubes, flaps, hygienic and pharmaceuticals and Belting. Interestingly India is not only the largest producer of Natural Rubber but also the largest consumer. In spite of high domestic demand, India has been able to export great qualities of Natural Rubber to other countries. It is one of the important foreign exchange earners for India. Though Natural Rubber cultivation occupies a significant position, it encounters many problems inherent in the field of production and trading particularly for the small planters. The present study is based on the primary data collected from 50 respondents who are natural rubber cultivators with small holdings in the Kottayam District and secondary data from journal, newspaper and website of Rubber Board. The objectives of the study are 1) To understand the challenges faced by rubber farmers in marketing their rubber products 2) To analyze the level of awareness about the economic benefits that are offered by the Rubber Producers society. The result shows that high transportation cost, delay in payments, inadequate support from Rubber Board, non- maintenance of proper accounts are the major marketing problems faced by the small growers of natural rubbers. Regarding the level of awareness about the various economic benefit that are provided to the cultivators ,the respondents are highly aware about the various types of inputs which are provided by the RPS.
