Title

Participation of Rural Women in Improve Dairy Cattle Management practices

Abstract

Livestock are considered a key asset for rural livelihoods and offer significant opportunities for improving household incomes. Women traditionally play a major role in conducting various livestock management activities all over the world. Rural women play a significant role in agriculture and livestock rearing. Animal husbandry in rural areas is generally the job of women. . But the extent of their participation varies from region to region. Therefore, it is important to assess their participation in dairy cattle management practices to enable rural women to adopt required technologies for increasing milk production. Therefore, the present study entitled “Participation of Rural Women in Improve Dairy Cattle Management practices” was taken with the objectives to find out the participation of rural women in dairy cattle management practices. The study was conducted in Girwa tehsil of Udaipur district of Rajasthan. The sample consisted of 100 rural women from four villages of Girwa tehsil. Personal interview technique was used for collecting data from the respondents. Frequency, percentage and mean per cent score were used for analysis of data. that majority of the respondents had average level of participation in the components like breeding (72%), feeding (56%) and health care (54%), where as good participation was observed in management activities (62%). The overall mean per cent score (60.97) reveals that the respondents had average level of participation in dairy cattle management practices. The maximum mean per cent score was in management (74.MPS), followed by breeding (66.14MPS), feeding (63.5MPS) and least in health care (36.2MPS).
