Title

A Low Cost an Arduino based Embedded System for Differential Thermal Analysis of a Solid Chemical Compound

Abstract

The Differential Thermal Analysis (DTA) is used for studying thermal behavior of various substances, which include organic and inorganic compounds and polymers.This paper presents an Arduinoplatform basedembedded system for acquisition and JAVA base Graphical User Interface (GUI) for Differential Thermal Analysis (DTA). The system employs three K-type thermocouples interfaced with MAX81355, 16 x 2 characters LCD-display and an Arduino platform that can be connected to Personal Computer or Laptop. The Arduino Platform is based on ATmega328Pmicrocontroller. The sample temperature (TS), reference temperature (TR) and furnace temperature (TF) aremeasured using K-Type thermocouples. These measured values are fed to Arduino platform through a signal conditioning circuit for further processing. The measured temperature parametersare displayed on LCD as well as stored in Personal Computer for further analysis.The Graphical User Interface is designed using JAVA programming. This system can be used in the chemistry laboratories in academic and research institutions as well as in industries.
