Title

Phytochemical analysis, Antimicrobial and Antioxidant potential of Lithophyllum tortuosum

Abstract

The present study aimed to elucidate the preliminary screening of Lithophyllum tortuossum against UTI pathogens. The human pathogenic strains such as Enterococcus facium, Enterococcus faecalis, Enterococcus saccharolyticus, Escherichia coli, Klebsiella oxitoca, Streptococcus pyogenes, Streptococcus agalactiae, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Xanthomonas campestris were identified and isolated from the collected urine samples. The antibacterial activity of ethanol and methanol extracts of Lithophyllum tortuossum were performed against isolated human pathogens. The maximum inhibitory effect of methanol extract showed 17mm against Streptococcus agalactiae and ethanol extract showed 15mm against Pseudomonas aeruginosa. The antioxidant activity of two solvents extracts were performed and the total phenol activity was found to be higher. Preliminary phytochemical analysis showed the presence of Glycosides, Flavonoids, Saponins, Steroids, Tannins in both the extracts. Antibacterial and antioxidant activity indicated the presence of active constituents which can be exploited to produce innovative drugs for the welfare of global health.
