Title

The Traditional Diagnostics Methods and Divination by the Miris in the Adi Society

Abstract

Abstract: For a long time humanity had been susceptible to the occurrence of many diseases. The humans of those times tried to cure the diseases through trial and error methods. They had been used to indigenous medicines. According to the Adi people, diseases are supernaturally caused and thus, their curing is done through supernatural practices. In all cultures there is a close connection between beliefs, ritual and curing.2 Among the Adis the belief belonging to various diseases and heir cure is based on the post experience and traditional logics. The traditional healing method is preserved from time immemorial and is maintain from generation to generations. There are particular sections of people who are voluntaries employ in this, they are known as the Miris (Priest).3 They are the people with special knowledge and skill who help members of their communities in nick time. When a person approached the Miri by sick he started his incantations and some rituals are practiced he cured the person from the sick. The Adis believes that if a person do not have faith in the healing power and method of the Miri , when the diagnosis rendered futile. But now a days changes occurred in the Adi society, the educated younger generation have not much interested in this type of curing diseases. But the old people try to keep their tradition as much of value.
