Title

Damping Electromechanical Oscillations using Power System Stabilizer (PSS)

Abstract

Low frequency electro-mechanical oscillations in modern power industry are a common phenomenon. These oscillations must be damped for a reliable and protectedsystem operation. These can be mitigatedby using Power System Stabilizer (PSS) on generator bus or by placing FACTS devicesat optimize points in power system. In this paper PSS has beenproposed to damp the electro-mechanical oscillations. To demonstrate the effectiveness of PSS at generator bus to damp electro-mechanical oscillations a 14 bus system has been used.
