Soil is a largest carbon reservoir in the terrestrial carbon cycle. Urban soil is an important part of urban ecological environment. Soil organic carbon (SOC) plays an important role in global Carbon cycle. The impact of climate change on the ecology, economy and society is increasing day by day. The carbon stock in a soil depends on various factors viz, soil texture, climate pattern, bulk density of soil, organic carbon content, vegetation and land use pattern. Ulhasnagar the study area is an unplanned city consisting of five different Camp regions with uneven distribution of trees and with varied garden number. In the present investigation organic carbon, bulk density, soil carbon stock of 51 urban gardens in Ulhasnagar was estimated. The total organic carbon (%) in the garden soil was found to be 24.6%, of which highest was in gardens of Camp III region (10.41%) and least in Camp II (1.40%). The total bulk density (in range of 0.30-0.38 g/cm3 )and total soil carbon stock ( 29.4005 Mg C ha-1 ) of the soil samples from different gardens indicated poor soil in the study area.
