Vehicle detection and counting system plays an important role in an intelligent transportation system for managing traffic.Many techniques in past were developed for detecting and counting vehicles.This paper deals with the present techniques for detection and counting such as frame differentiation and edge detection,blob detection and deep learning and neural network technique such as CNN.All these techniques gives accurate results in different challenging situations such as daylight/nighlight,rainy scenes,stop and go traffic etc.This paper mainly focuses on the comparion between these techniques giving a perfect overview of which one is better and why.
