Title

Design and Behavioral analysis of circular and elliptical shaped gas turbine blades using finite element method

Abstract

Cooling of turbine blades could be a major thought as a result of their subjected to warmth operating conditions. Many ways are advised for the cooling of blades and one such technique is to possess radial holes to pass high speed cooling air on the blade span. The forced convection heat transfer from the blade to the cooling air can reduce the temperature of the blade to allowable limits. Finite element analysis is employed to calibrate the structural performance for alloy steel and titanium metal alloy. The analysis features two different design models of turbine blade incorporated with eight circular and elliptical shaped holes respectively. The turbine blade is designed and modeled in SOLID WORKS SIMULATION TOOL and the structural analysis is carried out in ANSYS workbench. The results revealed that by increasing the hole design; the elliptical model is quite effective than circular model as it shows less deformation as well as stress in contrary with the other one for same working parameters.
