Title

QUANTITATIVE ASSESSMENT OF GROUNDWATER AND SOIL FERTILITY MANAGEMENT FOR RURAL DEVELOPMENT USING REMOTE SENSING AND GIS TECHNIQUES

Abstract

Rural development is the process of enhancing the quality of life and economic well-being of people living in rural areas. Since economy of the study area is mainly dependant on agriculture in which soil and water are important resource elements, the study on soil types, soil fertility and ground water quality evaluation from an important aspect in the present study. The groundwater resource estimation, draft assessment and budget for the year 2018 are worked out using a water table fluctuation method of GEC-1997. The net annual utilizable groundwater resource of Rairangpur block is 1386.662 HM, The net ground water draft of Rairangpur block is 341.6 HM. The groundwater balance as on December 2018 in Rairangpur block is 1638.18 HM., out of which 163.8 HM can be employed for drinking use. The stage of groundwater development of Rairangpur blocks are only 17.25%. The Rairangpur block comes under white/ safe category. Soil fertility management encompasses all the attributes, aspects and activities that maintain enhance and sustain the ability and capacity of the soil to supply adequate quantities of nutrient elements for optimal plant growth. The maps for soil Boron, Calcium, Copper, Iron, Magnesium, Manganese, Sulphur and Zinc are presented .From the maps it may be seen that Boron content is invariably very low in Rairangpur block.
