Title

Cellulase activity of some pathogenic fungi by viscometer method

Abstract

The enzyme activity was assayed by viscometer method as percentage viscosity loss. The viscosity measurement was carried out at 0, 5, 10, 15, 20, 25 and 30 minute with an Ostwald’s viscometer with as 45 seconds flow rate for water. Altogether five pathogenic fungi viz. Fusarium incarnatum, Alternaria citri, Colletotrichum musae, Colletotrichum sp. and Gibberella avenaceum were selected for study. All the fungal species show cellulase activity. Studies on Cellulase activity against five pathogenic fungi revealed that the enzyme activity significantly differed (p=0.01) among the five pathogenic fungi under investigation The Cellulase activity significantly (p=0.01) decreased with the advancement of time from 0 to 30 min. Alternaria citri (86.16%) showed maximum percent loss of viscosity, followed by Gibberella avenaceum (77.16%), Fusarium incarnatum (72.92%), Colletotrichum sp. (64%) and Colletotrichum musae (60.93%) in decreasing order.
