India has a very rich plant diversity, many of which are economically important and medicinally useful. The rich resource is dwindling at an alarming rate as a result of over- exploitation. Therefore, the management and the conservation of traditional plant resources has become a matter of urgency. However the enumeration of the local flora is inevitable for fulfilling this long lasting object. An initiative was made to enumerate campus flora of Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Gorakhpur University campus, Gorakhpur. The University campus endowed with ca.7200 trees belonging to 92 species, 82 genera and 42 families. The maximum number of tree species have been recorded in Tectona grandis(4284), Polyalthia longifolia (686), Mangifera indica (282), Trema tomentosa (252), Roystonea regia(196), Azadirecta indica (136), Lagerstroemia speciosa (121), Ziziphus mauritiana (116), Psidium guajava (89), Albizia lebbeck (69), Ficcus religiosa (55), Delonix regia (54)etc. Interestingly the campus adorned with 3 endangered and economically important medicinal plants namely Aegle marmelos, Prosopis cineraria, Santalum album, , and one vulnerable species namely Toona ciliata. In addition the campus houses with only 2 gymnosperm species namely Cycas revoluta and Araucaria heterophylla.
