: This paper gives an overview of Cloud Computing, Cloud and traditional databases and the comparison between Cloud and traditional databases. Issues affecting the performance of the cloud database are also defined inside the paper. Cloud Computing is the process of storing, managing and processing of data over the internet with pay-as-you use medium. The data is stored, managed and processed on the internet rather than the local server or the personal computer. Traditional databases have been used in the Information Technology industry for almost 40 years but due to lesser cost, scalability and pay-as-you-go model cloud computing have become the reality. We can count a number of pros in the cloud database over the traditional database, for example, if we are using cloud database, we get services like automated update, tuning and backups, built-in security and many more, but with all these pros it has some issues that affects its performance which are highlighted in this paper.
