Data Aware Networking is a new approach in the networking architectures which is used to handle huge amount of data in an efficient way under a distributed environment. The main advantage with this DAN is even though it is handle huge amount of data it provides a flexibility to its users in accessing the covet data easily and fast in a safe environment by maintaining accuracy irrespective of location of data. In order to provide all user needs the network should be aware of all client requests and also capable of distribute data in a distributed way. With these rich features, DAN attracted the researchers. The researchers are mainly concentrating on the 8 design goals of DAN. One of the major design issues in DAN is the caching. Caching is an imperative part of DAN. The cache plays an important role in responding the user requests after thorough inspection. This paper addresses the two new approaches in designing caches namely proactive and reactive cache mechanisms along with their evaluation metrics.
