NREGA programme in India gives rural women a lucrative opportunity to engage in the labour market, gain money, and monitor life events. However, women's participation and share in NREGA jobs are affected by different socio-economic factors such as schooling, caste, faith, alternative wages, health-related accomplishments, and fund availability. Variation of individual variables is also beyond their influence. Sex is the unavoidable growth and development driver of a nation like India. Although women have contributed to economic production since the beginning of human civilization, their position was visualized as passive. This paper would concentrate on the effect of the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Job Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) on empowering women in the five gaon panchayats of Nandakumar, Purba Medinipur, West Bengal.
