Abstract: Today, it is a well –proven fact that only education can transform the world scenario and provide us a smart and bright future. Education arena plays a key role for the socio-economic development of human being. With the emergence of the internet and development in ICT has brought in tremendous changes in the learning and teaching processes of different levels and stages of education. As result, online learning is rapidly gaining it importance and momentum. It supports students, faculties and researchers with the chance to continue teaching and learning. MOOCS is a tool where knowledge seeker can access teaching and learning material across the globe with no bar of time and place at the least cost. The study presents, various platforms of MOOCS, its features and challenges. This paper also discusses the SWAYAM initiatives in India and the study highlights the role of librarians towards facilitates of MOOCs courses. Findings: We found that despite of various advantages of MOOC i.e 27 & 7 and anywhere of teaching, anytime accessibility of teaching learning materials, synchronous assessment, quality content of study materials, it is still not solution for all. The challenges such as overloading information, lack of language support and the support from the instructor in real-time, due to large number of participants have dropped to finish MOOC course.
