A mobile ad hoc network (MANET) is a collection of mobile nodes that are dynamically and arbitrarily located in such a manner that the interconnections between nodes are capable of changing on a continual basis. To support multimedia or real time applications, it is highly desirable that a MANETs must have provision of Quality of Service (QoS). However, the provision of QoS in MANETs is a big challenging task. Queueing network models have been successfully used for performance modeling of MANETs. Many queueing theory parameters were used to study and analyze various performance measures that are commonly of interest such as end to end delay, throughput, jitter, packet drop rate etc. in MANETs. This paper presents a review of ongoing research related to the provision of QoS in MANETs using queueing theoretic approaches.
