Title

Role of ICT in Women Empowerment in 21st Century

Abstract

IWD (International Women’s Day) is celebrated on 8th March every year. It is major day of global celebration for the economic, political and social achievement of women. In general women empowerment includes women’s sense of self-worth, their right to have and determine choice of their own and having right to access opportunities and resources. The modern women of today are so deft and self-sufficient that she can be easily called the superwomen as she manages many fronts single handedly. Despite patriarchal society, women have excelled in every field from social work to political, from art to business, from science and space to literature. Even though women excelled in many fields still the survey indicates that women are far behind from men in literacy. The literacy rate of women is much lower compared to men. The rate of literacy for women is 65.70% against 82.37% of men according to 2018 census. Even after 72 years of independence, women occupy a secondary position in our social hierarchy. Inspire of being aware of her position, women can’t transform the situation due to lack of education. The high rates of illiteracy among Indian women and the corollary gender gap in literacy attainment are attributable to many social, economic and culture factors. ICT can open a direct window for women to outside world. Information can flow to them without any distortion or censuring. This leads to broadening of Perspective, greater understanding of their current situation. ICT provides women a platform where people can interact with each other. ICT is playing an important role in changing the attitude & perspective of society towards women. ICT sector is normally a great place to work as a woman because a dynamic and expanding sector provide enough opportunities to all of us. ICT can’t replace teacher it can aid the teacher in process of teaching & make teaching- learning process more interactive. If women are provided this chance, they can do wonders. If we must see a bright future of women in our country, giving education to them must be a pre-occupation. The education of women is the most powerful tool to change the position of women in society.
