Modified Divide Sum Method for Finding Initial Basic Feasible Solution of Transportation Problems

Abstract
Transportation is an integral part of our life. Therefore in order to maximize profit or minimize cost studying these problems is very much useful.There are many methods for finding initial basic feasible solution of transportation problems. There is a paper by Deep et al in which authers gives divide sum method to find initial basic feasible solution of transportation problems in this method there was a limitation that this method will not work if cost of transportation is zero. In this paper I tried to remove this drawback by assigning a very very small transporta- tion cost φ at place where cost is zero.Method is explained by giving a suitable example.
