This project is the controller based automatic saline infusion pump. Administering drugs to patients by the oral, subcutaneous, and intravenous means is a fundamental concept for the treatment of diseases in clinical medicine. Saline pumps are highly useful in delivering a precise quantity of the fluid at specific periods of time as required. This project presents a proposal to create a cost effective working prototype of saline pump for delivering of drop rates for the administration of small volumes. The presented saline pump utilizes a mechanism that is driven by a stepper motor which itself is controlled by an electronic circuit based on an PIC 18F4520 controller that works as the brain of the system and controls all other peripherals like LCD, keypad, buzzer and other components. An IR sensor is used to detect the flow rate of liquid. The output obtained from the sensor is given to controller to check whether the flow rate is slow, medium, or fast and it display on LCD. When infusion process is complete the buzzer will be on.
