Electric connected autonomous and sharing (ECAS) cars' digitalization accelerates the convergence of many technologies, including perception, computer processing, connection, propulsion, and data fusion. In order to offer comprehensive internal and extrinsic intelligence for new mobility applications, this utilizes cutting-edge computer paradigms with embedded cognitive capabilities in vehicle domains and data infrastructure. When it comes to fulfilling the sustainability objectives of the green transformation of the mobility and transportation sectors, digital technologies are a critical enabler. This article examines the most important aspects of self-driving vehicle technology. Four important self-driving automobile technologies, including navigation, route planning, perception of the surroundings, and vehicle control, are examined in this article. There is a summary of the major research institutions and organizations in various nations. Finally, the arguments for and against self-driving cars are explored, as well as the direction in which they are likely to evolve.
