BHABANI BHATTACHARYA’S MUSIC FOR MOHINI AND RAMA MEHTA’S INSIDE THE HAVELI- A COMPARATIVE STUDY

Abstract

Bhabani Bhattacharya’s novel ‘Music for Mohini’ is a story of a young girl named Mohini who bends herself to the traditions of the Big House at Behula, a village near Calcutta. Besides she bridges the two cultures -the culture of the city and the culture of the village. Rama Mehta‘s novel deals with the conflict that a city born and brought up girl faces when she gets married in a traditional family in Udaipur. The stories of both the novels illustrate how Mohini, a Calcutta born and convent educated girl and Geeta, a Bombay born and convent educated girl accept the traditional ways of life.
