This paper contemplates on performance of A.C. generators (induction & synchronous machines) in distribution generation. The main aim is to improve the transient stability in power system while the second aims in power system are power-frequency control & voltage control. These services must be provided by the generator connected the grid. Besides that because of the global energy crises the unpredictability of the non-ending price fluctuations of fossil fuels and the complexities of the construction & maintenance of the power plants, non renewable sources of energy are emerging. In this context A.C. generators have received more attention, which have been employed in the thermal, small hydro & wind generation plants. The paper is organized as follows. Basic principles of A.C. generator are described in section II. Section III emphasizes on the comparisons of two machines on the basis of regulation, reactive power consumption, cost size etc. Section IV describes the simulation results for a test system using MATLAB/simulink.
