Abstract
The Narasimham Committee (1991) was primarily interested in improving the financial health of public sector banks and development financial institutions (DFls). So as to make them viable and efficient and meet fully the emerging needs of the real economy. The basic approach of the Committee was the greater market orientation would strengthen the financial system and thus improve its effective its efficiency: “the solvency, health and efficiency of the institutions should be central to effective financial reform”. The major recommendations of the Narasimham Committee finance institutions (DFls) and the money and capital markets.
