Six Acres and a Third is an Indian novel written originally in Odia language by Fakir Mohan Senapati who was a well-known, philosopher and reformer. Fakir Mohan Senapati is known as the Father of Odia Literature as he played a vital role in getting Odia language its due recognition. Six Acres and a Third is one of the first novels in an Indian language that is based on how the feudal lords and representatives of the Empire under British colonialism exploited the locals in India and especially the landless farmers. The author delves deep into the local perspective of Odia culture and traditions and the Odia way of living getting affected by the British Colonialism. The novel has been cleverly crafted by Fakir Mohan Senapati and it comes across as a literary as well as historical document representing Indian village life in colonial India.
