Title

SDS-PAGE Profiling of Bacopa monnieri (L.) and Eclipta prostrata (L.) L. Pennell growing in Natural and Saline Habitat

Abstract

Salinity is one of the most brutal environmental factors limiting the productivity of medicinal plants because most of the medicinal plants are sensitive to salinity caused by high concentrations of salts in the soil, and the area of land affected by it is increasing day by day. The study revealed the presence of many medicinally active constituents in two species investigated, suggesting that these plant species have the potential to synthesis useful metabolites. Numerous evidences gathered in earlier studies also confirmed the presence of bioactive phytochemicals in Bacopa monnieri and Eclipta protrata growing in natural and saline habitat. It allowed to obtain samples for SDS-PAG excluding contaminants (DNA, pigments, etc.) that influence proteins migration and worsen the quality of electrophoresis. SDS-PAGE analysis of leaf tissue of Bacopa monnieri contain maximum protein band in natural habitat whereas minimum in saline condition. The same result is seen in Bacopa monnieri also. All this results suggests that phytochemicals constituents of the medicinal plants showing varied results while they are growing in the different habitat
