Abstract

The researcher's honest aim in the current study is to examine secondary school students' attitudes toward the English language in relation to some demographic factors. A sample of 309 secondary school students studying in Narasaraopet Educational division of Guntur district was selected by using a stratified random sampling technique. The researcher gathered information from 309 secondary school students in the Narasaraopet educational division of Guntur district and used mean, SD, percentage, and crucial ratio to analyze the data. Attitude towards Learning English Language Scale was developed and standard by Abidin, M. J. Z. et al. (2012). It has 45 statements and 15 negative and 30 positive statements were included. The items were given a likert scale with three possible outcomes: Agree, Neutral, and Disagree. The reliability coefficient of correlation (r) was found to be 0.878 by using the Spearman-Brown Prophecy Formula. The findings of the research showed that gender and locality of living make a significant difference in the attitude of secondary school students towards the English language. In this study, girls and urban students possess a high attitude towards the English language when compared to boys and rural students. Class studying and medium of instruction don't make a significant difference in the attitude of secondary school students towards the English language. By Abidin, M. J.
