Because of its wide applications in electronic, optoelectronic and energy conversion devices, semiconductors are a very interesting and attractive class of material. The energy band gap and characteristics of both valence and conduction bands determine the special and novel electronic and optical characteristics of semiconductors. Semiconductor's physical properties can be easily adjusted by reducing size to nanometer scale, adjusting morphology, and doping with suitable elements as well. The synthesis of monodisperse nanoscale semiconductors is a very difficult field of nanoscience research and needs a better understanding of size and surface effects. In order to obtain clear basic knowledge in the field of nanoscale semiconductors and to develop nanodevices with improved efficiency, much more extensive and systematic studies are required.
