Title

The Role of Yoga in Open and Distance Learning System: Impact on Learners and their Learning

Abstract

Open and Distance Learning system has emerged in higher education globally. Nowadays, distance learning is being referred as online learning, e-learning, virtual learning in which the learner and the teacher are separated by time or geography, or both. Today’s learner is under pressure for many reasons in that case YOGA plays a significant role to reduce the pressure or stress. YOGA courses are available in distance education also. This study examines the impact of Yoga on distance learners. For effective distance learning a part of physical activities as YOGA is needed to increase the motivational level of learner in which successful feedback is possible. This study is empirical - analytical in nature and adopts a mixed method approach. An online questionnaire comprising 5 Likert-type items was used to collect responses from 60 learners of IGNOU and Uttarakhand Open University. In ODL system Online Learning Opportunities are increasing through blended strategies which can be made more successful or flexible through YOGA which helps to keep peace of mind. In ODL system importance of YOGA should be increased by offering classes in blended mode (offline vs. online). The rapid emergence of Yoga education in Distance Education has been observed in the modern world to preserve health and harmony. In this study researchers found there is required to empower the roles of authorities (Directors and Academic Counselors) to play independently in systematic way. This Study has been carried out to examine the role of YOGA to deal anxiety and in reducing the stress level of learning of distance learners.
