Toni Morrison’s novel Beloved focuses on the effects of slavery on African American people and their families. It illustrates the importance of social and economic justice in pursuing social work. It highlights the importance of understanding the struggles of marginalized individuals and the need for social workers to fight for social and economic justice to create a more equitable society. Her works are known for exploring African American culture and racial and economic justice themes. The paper will look at a specific work, Beloved, and analyze it from the perspective of social and economic justice, referencing issues of oppression and connecting them to the NASW Code of Ethics.
